Paddy Cultivation in India

India has the largest paddy output in the world and also the second largest exporter of rice in the world.Paddy fields are common sight throughout India, be the northern gangetic  plain or southern peninsular plateau. Paddy is cultivated atleast twice a year in the most parts of India. The paddy cultivation plays a major role in socio-cultural life of rural India. Many festivals such as Bihu in Assam, Sankranthi in Andhrapradesh, Thai pongal in Tamilnadu, Makara sangranthi in karnataka, Nabanna in West Bengal celebrates harvest of paddy. In Kerala, Kuttanad which spreads in three districts is famous for paddy cultivation. Kuttanad is known as the rice bowl of Kerala.
