Prof. O.N.V.Kurup, Malayalam poet and Gyanpith winner released the book, “Marunnupurattan vendi murivundakkunnayal” (Malayalam, Chinta Publications, Trivandrum, Rs.40/-) written by Ammu (Gayathri)on 19th April 2011 at Kendriya Vidyalaya Pattom.

Harry Potter series of books proved that children’s books without illustrations can also become so popular and trendsetters in reading and publishing, said Dr. Radhika C. Nair, Children’s writer and the translator of the first Harry Potter book into Malayalam. She was speaking at the Meet the Author session organized by the Library Media Centre in connection with the Harry Potter birthday celebration at Kendriya Vidyalaya Pattom.
Radhika C. Nair also urged the students to fetch out stories and folktales which are hidden in our local culture and more interesting than the Harry Potter saga.
The library has conducted book jacket designing, Harry Potter quiz, Harry Potter birthday recipe writing competition and an exhibition of Harry Potter books as part of the event and the prizes for the winners were distributed at the function. C.P.Kumaran, Principal, S.L.Faisal and B. Surendran (Librarians) were also present.

LJ members met the famous Malayalam poet and the winner of 2007 Gyanpeet Award, Prof. O.N.V. Kurup at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram on 24 February 2010.

Effective reading should be followed by thinking which leads to develop one’s creativity, said Gireesh Puliyoor, poet and children’s writer. He was inaugurating the Reader’s Club activities for the new academic session at Kendriya Vidyalaya Pattom on 10 August 2011. He cited the examples of prophet Muhammad and ancient Indian munis/seers who gave utmost importance to reading and knowledge seeking. Excessive reading/over reading may also be avoided since it develops inaction/laziness, he urged. Later Puliyoor recited own poems and interacted with the students.

Thirteen LJ members had an opportunity to participate in the "Story Time" programme with famous Malayalam poet and children's writer Shri. Gireesh Puliyoor on 24 August 2011. The programme will be broadcasted on VICTORS Education Channel under the IT@School initiative. The students have also visited the VICTORS studio.
